Compared to what usually happens in your average movie on NG the punchline to this was quite surprising...

"no flash loader... be more prepared next time!"

date: March 22, 2008

i don't know how the others didn't pick this up... maybe I'm the first to be watching this on dial-up...
before you post any more of your work, check out the following link:

www.newgrounds.com/flash

you didn't add a flash loader at the start which means, for people in my situation, we get a choppy, bit-by-bit story. The second time around it worked ok though.

I'm not trying to be harsh but this is a fairly crucial, non-negotiable element of any animation on this site.

Author's Response:

I did. I added it it in. You know what happened? It screwed the whole thing up. I had to close without saving and re-export my SWF. Apparently, that preloader is written in Actionscript 2.0, and this was made in 3.0. Seeing as how I'm simply posting up something I made long before considering putting it into here, and I have no idea whatsoever how to save to a 2.0 format short of copy/pasting each frame, I had to do without. Sorry.

Undead Steel

"quality art and animation... storyline?"

submission: Undead Steel
date: March 22, 2008

This was a great example of skilled animation techniques, utlitising layers and the artwork was of high quality.

It was all there except for the lack of a storyline to wrap all the good bits together...

Creepy though... a really dark and psycho scene.

"good 1st try..."

submission: Zombie Blood

You've certainly got the basic skills... now it just comes down to practise making perfect. It's encouraging that you can recognise this isn't perfect... that means the next movie you make will most likely be better.

This movie was too slow for me... although I suppose zombies aren't exactly leaping with vitality. If you were going for the whole "slow mo' effect" then you could've included a vocal overdub slowed right down too... Eeeeaat leeeaad zommmmbieeeee... BANG!

Close up the zombie looked a bit too much like a bunch of circles. Investigate how to make shapes less geometrical. The teeth should've been rotten and the zombie, mangled and scruffy. These things can be incorporated into your existing animation so it doesn't mean starting from scratch...

"polish this and it will shine..."

date: March 22, 2008

Yeah, being made to read LOTF at school sucked but it is actually not such a bad read. You've made a humourous interpretation of the book and it came off pretty well.

Some of the humour elements were great and the animations ok but the voice overs got bad near the end. My speakers were peaking out with spike after spike of over-loud volume bursts... you need to watch that as it nearly wrecks the whole movie.

I'm guessing your microphone is on the cheap side but you should still be able to avoid those sharp crackles.... lower the recording volume and consider putting a stocking stretched over a coathanger in front of your mic to try and minimise those peaks.

Author's Response:

The mic itself is.. yeah it is pretty cheap but it got the job done (which was originally to get a decent grade). Glad you liked it anyways :) At least some :p

Suicide Escape Clause

"creepy insights into the dark side of humanity..."

date: March 22, 2008

The narrators voice drives this animation... it is detached and lacks empathy for the subject. I was left feeling almost queasy...

The very minimalist graphics and animation work for this movie because of the narrator's voice... it fills in the gaps. It's a GREAT voice.

The underlying message I took out of it is quite sad... it is a reflection of how some people "fall through the cracks" in modern society. This is almost too serious for NewGrounds! I didn't like this movie but I'm glad I watched it...

The heading makes a lot more sense right at the end. Great stuff.

DailyMoons #03

"surprisingly good!"

submission: DailyMoons #03

After reading all the negative hype below my expectations of this were very low... but I liked it!

DnaDraxxus criticised the "rising \setting moon" as being jumpy and concluded it was a failed animation... but isn't it meant to be jumpy? The moon appears to be grooving to the music in that part of the animation.

The shapes and animations are simple but effective. The colours and the music choice are wacky and remind me of Austin Powers and the 60s psychedelia. The end is unexpected and funny.

This won't challenge the Mona Lisa as a timeless piece of art but it made me chuckle. Good work.
