hell on earth...

just great, the pattern of the drum and guitar riffs... very good transitions between sections also. This was really catchy to listen to (in a similar way to Fear Factory, for instance) and the screams were very good.

something like this is hard to judge, ok?

on the one hand, you could've spent about 5 minutes making this... which would demand a very low score. I'm still trying to decide.

The drum beat is spaz but I strapped on the headphones and had a close listen. They are actually quite catchy and not at all shabby. The FX over the drums are interesting... reminds me (a little bit) of Primus on Brown Album. Sort of distorted. The whole thing is a little bit Primus... way out of left field.

I think it's the guitars that bug me... they don't really go with the beat. I don't mind the harsh overdriven nature of the sound but I can't really hear that you've tried to think about the guitars too much.

Still, I didn't hate it. I'm smiling. Is that what you're aiming for?

shit you ain't half bad at the geetar. Some good licks in there. Like I said with a bit of direction and with your talent you could make some very good tunes.

the timing thing... it wasn't too shabby. Near the end it did go up and down a bit but, hey, you're recording music live rather than programming the whole thing... I give you a big tick in my book for doing that in itself.

On the issue of timing: have you tried setting up a click-track on Audacity to "keep you honest"? Drumming&Strumming to a click can be a real pain in the arse but once you get the hang of it you will never look back.

You mention halfway through point two that "To record now, I'd have to record the entire track unless i want a bazillion different tracks". I hate to break it to you but that is exactly what you need to do. It can be really frustrating when you hit a bum note halfway through and have to do the whole thing again, but if you are playing live at a gig you can't turn around and cut-and-paste just because you missed a couple of notes. It's not a bad thing to aim for your best and if that means sitting for three hours re-re-re-re-re-recording a track then imagine how much better you will be after all that practise.

There were some killer riffs in here... keep working on it. The end was really gutsy... the whole thing kept me interested. It had good energy.

I appreciate people like you who give honest answers and don't diss a fellow for trying. And yeah I guess my little statement did sound lazy. The new version of Avenging your Fallen was an all-day project, well over 12 hours into it. And I guess I could sit down and perfect everything. I do use the click track, by the way and it MAJORLY helps. I guess the thing with most people here on Newgrounds is when they record, they hook straight into a synth which automatically keeps time for you and junk, so timing isn't a huge deal to them. But using cheap equipment makes things just a little more difficult. If I knew I could make it well off I'd buy a lot more equipment... a mixer would be nice, and a couple more pedals, on top of a half-stack or something, and instead of plugging straight in to the amp, adding a mic to the speakers sounds much better. Then of course... tubes. So, it really sucks but one day when I'm outta college and have some money I plan on making a recording studio, learning drums so I don't have to deal with the cheesy drum kits on my keyboard (although sometimes they're very beneficial) and yeah. Well... I've spoken too much. Thanks tho.

8 is for the freakin' fat in-your-face drumming... you are pretty damned good! Is the drumkit from hell kindof like the Guitar Pick of Destiny in that it grants the user eternal greatness, at the cost of your soul?

Seriously, some fat drums and drumfills... loved it.

Guitars also v.good... you've made my nuts shrivel up in jealousy... I use the one-liner "i'm a drummer so the guitars suck" before, but in my case it is true! Plus, now I think my drums suck pretty bad as well :(

To get 10 you need to get a better mix happening... the drums, as good as they were, completely drown out the guitar through the middle part.

the vox were a bit too muddy for my liking... couldn't make out any words (which is pretty usual in death) but maybe you could've included the lyrics so we could get an idea of what you're on about.

some neat riffs although on these speakers there was a weird squealy-squeaky shit that kicked in around .25 or .30 somewhere. It sounded bad... maybe peaking out or something? Compression could possibly fix that if that's the case.

I thought the drums were a bit too simple. The double kick at the start was ok but in other spots, in a place you had a single kick I thought there could have been a triplet... stuff like that. And some fills. They can really fatten up a song.

yea, that weird squealy shit was my fingers banging on the fret board...I KNOW it sounds horrible, i hate it too. BUT theres nothing i can doo, my guitar is soo sensitive.

I pretty much wrote and recorded this song with in 30 minutes, i didn't really take time on it, but i appreciate your review.

That break 1/2 way through kind of threw me though... it added a subversive touch of cheeze to the overall stench of grinding death.

waaay fat... a fat attack... a fat stack of crack and blackjack. I'm tempted to begin quoting "yo mammas so fat..." jokes but I might get zero-bombed. Probably will anyway.

this was really fat. I mentioned that. And tight. You got it on. I need to listen to this on some good equipment to get a final judgement but this sounds great through real cruddy computer speakers so you're onto it.

yearrhp... this works for me... almost trance-like... I'm trying to think what style of game I would see this in... maybe puzzle/maze games? I think... with the way it builds a bit near the end, it would certainly suit games that have a time limit...

You know, this could easily be an intro to a mad drum&bass (or something... i'm not sure how to classify the different varieties of electronic music) same riff just with some frantic drums backing it.
